Travel Prices Increase 4.2 Percent in October
The October Travel Price Index, TPI, rose 4.2 percent compared to October 2007 and decreased 3.4 percent against September 2008. Gasoline prices were up 12.3 percent from one year ago and decreased 14.8 percent from last month. Lodging prices were down 1.8 percent compared to October 2007. Airfares increased 10.4 percent against twelve months earlier and were down 4.4 percent from previous month. The Consumer Price Index, or CPI-U, was up 3.7 percent from October 2007 and decreased 1.0 percent from September 2008.
Developed by TIA, the Travel Price Index (TPI) measures the seasonally unadjusted inflation rate of the cost of travel away from home in the United States.
